Alex, the world-renowned African Grey Parrot, who changed how the world viewed and understood the intelligence of animals, is back in the spotlight again. Commemorating the fifth anniversary of his death, Grey Parrot Studios, in association with the Alex Foundation, has released the DVD, Life with Alex. Levin, lab manager and producer of the DVD, wanted to create a memoir and show the world just how truly special and unique Alex was.

See never-before-released footage of Alex with Dr. Irene Pepperberg, lab manager Arlene Levin-Rowe, and various lab assistants. Learn about Alex's daily life, interactions, accomplishments and watch him in action as he uses human words to tell them his thoughts or feelings.

To think that it all started in June 1977 when Alex was purchased by Pepperberg from a pet shop at the age of 12-13 months. Dr. Irene Pepperberg’s belief and dedication provided proof and showed ground-breaking cognitive and communicative abilities of parrots as intelligent beings to the world. Alex became famous. He could count object sets, identify colors, objects, actions and even did math.

Alex became beloved and known by millions during his television appearances with Pepperberg. The world watched in awe and amazement as Alex and Pepperberg proved what parrot owners always knew - these birds are extremely intelligent!

The loss of this beloved parrot was felt worldwide when he died unexpectedly at the age of 31 on September 6, 2007.

During his life, Alex and Pepperberg made a huge impact not only on bird owners but humans worldwide, even five years after his death, this legacy lives on. The Alex Foundation still receives emails and letters about Alex; and Pepperberg's book, Alex & Me, became a New York Times bestseller.
